Expanded Materials - Stones and Mortars | Development #1
Added 2022-01-16 00:02:39 +0000 UTC
Hey there folks! I've been polishing up some of the basic ideas and features for the upcoming mod of the Expanded Materials series. I've been willing to make this one since almost the beggining, and learning lots of stuff from the previous two releases of both Metals and Plastics, I'm willing to bring you a new mod that will expand on the production chains in a way that's both good for gameplay and with just the right amount of bloating.
So here I will share with you some of the stuff I've been working on. These are from the document I write stuff in to try keep track of the ideas and features, so know that these might change eventually during development.
Material: Cobblestone
A quick and cheap resource made from rock chunks at a stonecutter table. Its difference from stone blocks is the speed at which these are made. Flagstone floor now needs cobblestone instead of stone blocks.
Material: Mud
Mud can be extracted from the ground and is used to make bricks, which then must be dried in order to be usable on walls.
Material: Clay
Clay can be obtained by filtering mud or from rock chunks. Some rock types contain more clay than others. Clay is a fine type of mud with increased plasticity, which is really useful for making strong bricks, pottery and art.
Material: Sand
Sand can also be extracted from the ground and is used to make concrete mix, as well as sandbags for defense and other stuff.
Material: Concrete Blocks
Small concrete blocks used mostly to make decorations such as pathways and floors of all sorts.
Material: Adobe Bricks
Bricks made of mud. These must be dried first before they can be used to build. They are not very strong, but have good fire resistance.
Material: Clay Bricks
Bricks made of cooked clay. These bricks are considerably more resistant than their adobe counterparts, and the plasticity of clay allows them to be smoother and nicer, making them a fairly pretty material to build walls.
Material: Cement
A widely used mortar material used for building strong structures when combined with sand.
Building: Digging Spot
A small hole on the ground used for basic gathering of resources. Depending on the terrain below, the player can gather mud or sand. Sand can obviously be extracted when placed on top of sand tiles, while mud can be extracted by either placing it over mud or soil, though the latter one makes collection slightly slower.
Building: Brick Oven
A small 1x1 building made of stone blocks or adobe bricks. This oven is used mainly to cook clay-made objects like bricks or pottery.
Comments
Yeah, it's holds a small percent of placeholder yet, I was trying to make something that would sotr of merge with the terrain.
