EM - Metals | Rework Devlog #6
Added 2023-07-14 19:04:54 +0000 UTCHey there! I thought it was time for a new small devlog. Lately I've been working in commissions and trying to figure out some small but tricky gameplay features for the upcoming reworks.
In this occasion, I was figuring out the best way to implement the metal smelters without it being too bloaty for the game, and I came out to the conclusion that the two smelters I had before were a good idea, but I'll be removing the advanced one, since it didn't really had many uses and it felt bloaty indeed.

So, these are the new smelters you'll be getting. One will be pre-electricity and the other will be industrial era. Pretty simple, huh?
The main purpose of having these new workstations is to avoid bloating the smithy, as pretty much all of the recipes go there, and if you play with a lot of mods you'll get what I mean. That workstation has lots of recipes, and try to find the alloys in there could get a little annoying among all the "make x weapon" labels, so I'm de-bloating it by adding my own dedicated workstations for alloying metals, and also allows me to have a better control of balancing, as I can tweak their energy/fuel consumption values more freely.
However, I will also make use of the vanilla workstations. You'll be able to extract ores from rock chunks and maybe possibly scrap some slags or whatever using the vanilla smelter. I'll get y'all a post about scrapping soon, I hope. For now I wanna make sure to write clean code for all the C# features, since I don't want any weird bugs. There's not a lot of visual stuff I can show you about how the code work progresses, but I promise it's coming along really nicely.
As always, thank you everyone for the amazing support and for being patient and waiting for this nerdy dude to finish modding and expressing his art. Soon you'll get some cool non-Rimworld news about a lil' project of mine that might get some of you interested.
See you soon, and thanks again <3

I expect it to be high, maybe not as high as the vanilla smelter but a little more than the smithy. I will begin working in other reworks as I finish this one, since I usually end up not doing anything at all if I don't focus on one thing at a time.
