Sam looked at his watch and cursed under his breath. He had an appointment with the school career counsellor scheduled for 1:00 pm. It was already 1:10, and he could still hear the muffled sounds of two female voices conversing happily in the room as if they were the only people in the world.
One of the voices was, of course, that of Miss Patricia Sanchez, the counsellor who had a debonair grace about her, whom Sam always felt inferior around. Sometimes when he’d been even just a minute late to his meetings with her, she acted as if he were an unruly child in need of strict discipline.
The other voice sounded vaguely familiar. Sam couldn’t quite place it. But it reminded him of that Korean fetish model who had turned his life upside down. The one who’d played him like Shin Yechan played the violin in IU’s songs. That was two years ago, when both of them were sophomores. Now he was a senior, and he was looking forward to graduating and finding a job in some exotic foreign country where no one knew him.
The door opened, and...
It was her! Yuna’s syrupy bossy girl voice came through clearly--albeit without the mocking tone she reserved for talking to boys and women below her.
“Thanks again for helping me land the job with S&M Entertainment! I couldn’t be more excited.”
“It’s my pleasure to help. You deserve it.”
He slinked in his chair. He hoped Yuna would just walk on by. After letting Yuna film four videos using him as her ‘slave’ and making him do degrading things like sniff her dirty panties and have his cock mocked for its small size on her OnlyFans, he had finally snapped and refused to be filmed again.
“Hi, Sam,” she said, with her arrogance dial turned back up to 11. “What are you doing here?”
Yuna Yu reigned over him. Already a tall girl at 5’10”--nearly 178 centimeters--Yuna had an extra two inches in her platform boots, while Sam slumped with his shoulders scrunched.
“Eh, just looking for a job. You know.” It was the first time he’d talked to her in a year.
“I don’t know. I always have an easy time finding a job,” she responded. “You could have had a good job as an actor or a producer if you just kept it up.”
Sam was trying to be polite. He wished she would leave. He didn’t hate Yuna. Just the opposite actually. He still kind of felt attracted to her, felt a kind of tenderness, enchantment, infatuation, even, for that Korean goddess. That was just the problem. If she stayed too long talking with him, he might fall into her trap again. Maybe that’s just what she wanted. Deep down, maybe that's really what he wanted.
“I heard you got a job in the music industry? Congratulations.”
“Yes, thank you. I’ll be working with A&R and HR. It’s part of their talent development pipeline.”
Sam was speechless with envy.
“I ought to be going. Got some boys to crush under these Demonia’s,” she added.
Sam’s face flushed red with even more envy for the lucky boys. It could have been me if I wasn’t such a bitch. Yuna walked out the door, and Sam’s head turned as if being pulled towards her by a leash.
The sad thing was, it wasn’t anything Yuna had said or done that had made him feel depressed and humiliated. Rather, it was the comments of the incels on the Red Pill Academy forums in which Sam wasted his time. He’d “confessed” in a post to being attracted to dominant women and enjoying being used by a popular model. Through social engineering, some users were able to find exactly who he was from that information. They’d called Yuna a bitch, mocked him for appearing in her videos, and told him to stop if he wanted to be a real man. But he actually felt free when the cameras rolled and he was acting completely natural, being under the power of a superior member of the superior gender, and in the two years since then, he felt lonely and empty, like he was missing something but afraid to ask for it. He should have blocked the Red Pill website, not Yuna’s socials.
“Sam!” he heard Miss Sanchez shout from her office. “Why are you always late?!”
Sam sheepishly walked into her office.
“I’m sorry. I was here on time. But...”
“But you were talking to Miss Yu in the lobby.” She raised her eyebrows.
“No. I, mean--”
“Aren’t you excited for her?”
“Well, sure.”
“Enough fiddling around. You were supposed to be here ten minutes ago. As it is, my time is already limited. What do you want?”
“Well, speaking of music industry jobs, I guess you have connections. I was hoping I could get a job in K-pop, too. In sent you my resume...”
“I know you have experience performance in films.” She flashed him a sly, knowing smirk.
That was weird. Sam didn’t mention films on his resume. He had emphasized his time spent playing in a rock band in high school and his study of marketing at the university.
Miss Sanchez passed him a paper with job listings on it. They were all entry level things and unpaid internships.
“Where’s the listing of K-pop industry jobs that Yuna got?”
“There’s no such listing. Yuna happens to be very talented and very good at networking. To be honest, she didn’t need my help. All I did was help polish her cover letter and sign my name on the letter of recommendation she wrote.
“You, on the other hand...”
Miss Sanchez pulled Sam’s transcripts off a pile of papers on the table.
“I’m sorry, but a 3.15 GPA just won’t cut it if you’re trying to get into a talent development pipeline to a C-suite job like Yuna did.”
Sam was ready to walk out in disappointment when Miss Sanchez pulled out a dark leather folder and reached inside.
“There is one thing that might suit you.”
From within, she produced a sheet of embossed paper and handed it across her desk to Sam.
There was only one listing. It read:
K-POP LABEL LAUNCHING EXCITING NEW ACT
SEEKING MEN OF SPECIAL ABILITIES
Do you have what it takes? We are looking for men with the ability to work under extreme pressure. You will help serve the needs of the biggest acts for the biggest record companies. You may even be a part of launching an innovative new act. Your efforts will help with the success of the artists and label. You will get to work very closely with artists, sometimes assisting them in personal matters. The job will be challenging but extremely rewarding for the right person. Discretion is must. Detailed job description and requirements to be told in person only to qualifying candidates upon program commencement.
Why hadn’t Miss Sanchez shown him that ad in the first place? It sounded like just what he was looking for. He’d be happy to work hard if it meant he was doing something important. Sure, it was kind of vague in the specifics, but that air of mystery only made the job seem more intriguing to Sam. It must be something important and high-level if they had to shield the details from the public.
“I would love this!” Sam exclaimed.
“I’m sure you would...”
What did Miss Sanchez mean by that?
But before he could inquire further, she pointed to the door and shuffled him out. He took the paper with him.
