The sex, the alcohol, Torchwood; it was all to give him purpose because he lost his purpose when he lost his wife. I love it. It doesnโt excuse everything he did, it just explains it. Heโs still a very flawed character and heโs not the best person in the world, but heโs still one of my favourite characters.
