Enamour's Kicks Vol. 1

A note on kick tuning: I tagged each with the fundamental pitch but PLEASE take this with a grain of salt. Tuning your kicks (or just picking a different kick) can often improve your grooves or mixes quite a bit, BUT it's not just a matter matching the fundamental to the root note of your track. It can often work well as any note in the song's key, especially the perfect 4th or 5th...and sometimes it's irrelevant, namely with short or punchy, non-tonal kicks.
There's a lot of debate about this and it totally depends on the genre you're making and even the style of the low end of your track. Your best bet is to trust your ears, maybe audition each kick a +/- 50 cents or 1 semitone, and see what works best. Experiment with shortening your kick via fades or the sampler's envelope as well--if you pitch a kick down, it's going to be longer and looser which can often cause problems. And don't be afraid to audition many different kicks. I will sometimes test a new kick even after fully arranging and mixing a track!

glad to hear that! Yeah when it comes to kicks (and often drum samples generally) I think once you find a couple good ones you can stick with them, at least as layers if not straight up

2021-05-15 13:56:49 +0000 UTCI hate using other peoples samples directly but these kicks have instantly made one of my tracks better - I could use only blue kick/hands that feed/heart string kick on pretty much 90% of all my tracks. I love the sun kick though for a more lofi vibe
2021-05-15 10:34:07 +0000 UTCI just add samples to it as I go, there isn't a regular habit per se. I also just have certain packs that I return to time and time again in addition to samples from previous tracks
