Studio Feed: Starting from Scratch #1 Pt. 2

Hey Everyone, back with the next hour of Track #1. This session wasn't as productive, but that's okay...sometimes you don't feel like you've accomplished much in the time you worked, but the changes you made could actually be super important on the whole. I've included a few notes below so you can skim if you want.

The first 20 minutes are me messing with a Kontakt 808 drum machine trying to get a nice little groove going.

From 20-30 I'm exploring a high school acapella clip I ripped from Youtube to see if I can add a nice vocal texture. Then I work in a high string for more vibe and continue developing the vocal.

Around 39:00 - I'm trying to get a better hook out of the vocal sample. Once I've got a solid tremolo pattern and other processing (around 42min) I start "dropping the needle" so to speak, trying to find a random clip within the sample that could be a better bit than what I previously had. This is a really great technique to check out (42:30-44:30). Sometimes I'll just rip stuff from Youtube and drag around a short loop until something catches my ear. Here, once I found something nice, I isolated it out and reversed / chopped it up to make a hooky pattern. This section 40-52min is probably the 'coolest' part of the video, watching how I kinda struggled to get the vocal to work and then built what feels like the new hook of the song.

After that I'm messing around with phasers and flangers to get some ear candy, because why not?
