Starting a new mini-series here called Thinking Outside The Box (In The Box). My aim is to show you creative ways that you can use (and misuse) software (usually stock Ableton stuff) to inspire you to think outside of the box, and to just give you some cool new techniques to try out in your own work.
In this first video I cover a digital "needle drop" style sampling technique as well as experimenting with pushing Ableton's warp modes to their extremes, and then reeling sounds back in with Soundtoys Tremolator. There's a broader concept in the video as well: the idea of a sound inspiring a processing chain, which then in turn re-inspires the sound and can be used again and again in future projects to create a signature style.

Yeah, I dragged that long koto performance into a blank template and was messing around for a little. I think that melody bit was actually the second "element" to come from the sampling experiments, so I had done the chords already after coming up with a first element. However this 2nd one was way better so the first one became more of a background thing (it's those reversing strums you might notice at the bottom)
