Ergot Walkthrough

Hey Everyone, here with the walkthrough for Ergot, off my latest EP on Get Physical. This track (along with the other two on the EP) was the result of a lot of fun jams on various pieces of gear in my studio. Most of the ear candy (percussion and musical one shots) came from selecting and manipulating the best parts of these jams. Though a lot of the project is in audio, there's still plenty to learn here, especially about arrangement when it comes to incorporating all of these elements. Feel free to drop any questions below. Enjoy!

here's the patch https://pasteboard.co/4nRgavrwTPpw.png Pretty simple patch but the key is have VCO2 hard-synced to VCO1 for that metallic vibe. And then you can increase the pitch of VCO2 to change the timbre. Not positive if Mini V can hard sync...dont remember off the top of my head

Low end generally can throw off the balance a lot for compressors and other processing, especially in dance music where it's relatively prominent (e.g. your bass would be triggering the compressors entirely before anything from the music bus can). I'm not sure that "combining harmonics" actually makes sense either. Saturation on both separately would potentially be cleaner and more controllable. As far as glueing, I've always thought that its better to have your kick and bass "unglued" unless you're making heavy techno or using a very clicky/short impacty kick with a bass sub underneath and no sidechain (and the kick is never by itself)--you hear this sometimes in melodic techno. Otherwise, in the club you want both of them to punch individually. At the end of the day, its worth experimenting and seeing how everything sounds but I've come to prefer kick + drum bus + bass group + music bus. Much of what you'd read online isn't tailored for dance music, or is just written by amateurs who are rehashing bad advice

I think I've asked this question before but is there a reason you don't group your lows with the music bus? I'm not sure whether to group my kick + bass together or music + bass for gluing purposes, I like the idea of saturating and compressing the bass with the melodies to combine harmonics but realize it makes processing tougher for hi-passing certain sections.
