Hey Everyone, back with a long one! Pt 4 starts with a voiceover explaining where I'm at in the song--getting feedback from friends and beginning the "finishing" process of relentlessly cutting out unnecessary parts, refining the mix and spending a good amount of time enhancing specific elements. I tried to keep the voiceover going throughout when useful, explaining certain things as I go.
This one gets deep into the weeds with creative mix enhancements and I continually A/B to the older version to make sure I'm actually improving the track rather than just changing it. This also means the occasional backtracking, but that's an important thing to demonstrate because it's a key part of making good mixes in my opinion (that is, admitting when you've gone in a wrong direction and not hesitating to undo it all). It pays to try things out knowing you may just go down a 15 minute hole and undo it all, as long as you're not discouraged or wasting toooo much time...it's just part of learning.
The video ends at a point I'd say is like ~90% finished. Anything from here will likely be minor adjustments and the result of listening on different systems, testing out, showing friends, etc. I'm not sure I'll record another session on this one but I think this 4 part series was one of the more complete pictures you can get of my process, especially for a song that's not my typical style.
Enjoy!
