Studio Feed: Starting from Scratch #6 Pt. 8

Hey Everyone, back again with this demo.

I start off by turning the background bells into a transitional element at certain points in the song using Shifter. This is a nice little example of how using processing chains (or single fx) can help temporarily transform an existing element into a build up/transitional tool. I then continue finessing this transition, adding reverbed kick and other small adjustments.

Next I start messing with the drop to see if there's a better option there, or at least some potential variations. I end up landing on using a lower octave for the initial drop. As I adjust certain parameters or MIDI notes I'm also making sure to adjust the clip modulation that's already in there if needed.

Around 15 min onward I start changing up some of the background synths in that drop area and then around the entire arrangement. I'm working to make the groove a bit more interesting, but am probably overdoing it to be honest. I then continue working on the main transition and drop.

Around 30 min I'm adjusting the arp and continue working on the mix of various elements. At 38 min, I take one of the snares from the build up, and resample it through Valhalla SuperMassive to get a nice little impact (as well as a sweep when reversed). Another useful technique for getting transitional bits out of existing sounds in your track.

I then continue adjust the mix on various elements, as well as add flair to certain parts of the arrangement.
