Taskmaster has got to be one of the greatest TV shows EVER! The whole potato thing with Joe Wilkinson in this episode is probably one of the greatest 'sporting' moments ever. So much elation, heartbreak and controversy all rolled up into one little potato with some skilful editing to really make it pop, TV gold. Also, I'm not sure about botox specifically, but Katherine has (according to her) had quite a bit of plastic surgery. Jimmy Carr often makes jokes about it when she's working with him (he's had a lot too). When you're eventually done with UK Taskmaster, the New Zealand one is fantastic, and Aussie one just started recently, not sure how good that's going to be yet, seems okay so far. Yaarrrrrr ☠️

You know what? That is very true of season 1. The contestants balance eachother out really well. I am glad they manage to sustain that. And this show over all seems so well thought out and so well done, I am loving everything about it! 🤗🤗

I think in Jo's case it was a combination of age and persona. Throughout her career she's played "can't be bothered" to great effect. So when she was booked on Taskmaster in her mid-60s, I think she just kind of leaned into that with the more physical tasks. I also think some, like her, interpret doing their best differently, like they're more going for how they can be the most entertaining rather than how they can try and win. I know a couple of them have said that when they're actually doing the house tasks it's hard for them to get into a competitive mindset, because they're there by themselves and have no idea how or what the other contestants have done or will do. The great thing the producers do is (usually) get a really nice mix of personalities so you never have 5 people who are at each other's throats or 5 people who are working more to entertain than to win. However they manage to book the show, they do such a great job!

You're right, it is odd to go back and watch the early seasons when they were all still in the "traditional" panel show mindset. I love watching the series progress to the point where you've got some contestants really trying to win, some still genuinely not caring (thinking of Jo Brand), and some really trying to win and just being terrible. It's part of what makes it the one of the best shows ever.

Attention: There are versions that remove the ad breaks. You know how you liked that bit where Alex Horne was peddling a bike and the other Alex Horne was on a lazy Susan? Some versions don't have that and they are worse because of it.

When I first watched this episode I cried when Katherine Ryan cried because she didn't understand sport. I don't think I cried at Taskmaster again until the first COVID series. I don't remember which bit made me cry, it was just generally an emotional time. The more recent series have a few emotional moments too.

On Doc not trying despite it being a series long score board. That's something that I think hinders the first couple of series. As it goes on you get people that love the show and are genuinely competitive and trying to win, arguing Greg's decisions and trying to get as many points as possible Normally panel show scoring doesn't matter, so nobody really tries, so in early seasons people went in with that mindset. Also once people realised Champion of Champions would be a thing there was more incentive to win, because theyll get to come back and play again. I'd say the competitiveness picks up in the next series and keeps building.

Fred the Swede is Alex's friend and plays keyboard (I think) in his band The Horne Section. He moved back to Sweden a few years ago though, you'll see him pop up on Taskmaster occasionally

Joe Wilkinsons Potato Throw won the Taskmaster poll for most iconic Taskmaster moment recently. It's so fantastic how it all plays out, and I love how seriously everyone takes it. That's part of what makes Taskmaster so fun for me, is people doing ludicrous and stupid tasks but treating it like the most important thing they've ever done😂

For me, series 2 and 3 is where the show starts to come into its own. Series 1 is good, but it's probably my least favourite just because it all still feels like a six episode long pilot.
