Soldier + Miss Petrova Sketches 1 + 2 + 3

A while back, before I decided on doing the Mickey + Jessica story as my next comic, I had of course considered doing The Soldier and Miss Petrova! They seemed like a natural route, but their story is heavy for me. It was a really difficult choice, but I worried about committing to such an intense, somber story hot on the heels of Starfighter ending?
Perhaps that is a bit too IRL, my apologies! But I felt like it was wise to hold off on it.. at least, for now.
I was explaining my feelings about this to my dear friend who helped me workshop some of the Soldier and Miss Petrova story, so I felt inspired to revisit these characters!
I gave the Soldier a haircut! I had always struggled to know what to do with her hair.. (I have such a specific idea of her appearance that she is sometimes very difficult for me to draw!๐๐ฆ) I'm not sure if I'll stick to it, but it was an interesting design test.

Another hair style to consider: a short, sharp bob that can be slicked back into almost a classic men's style? I feel like the Soldier could pull off a whole bunch of different looks.

It was during a time I was coming to terms with being attracted to women as well and it made me think that that attraction was so beautifully portrayed and helped me accept it better. I love how you have redrawn them here! I didn't know what there names were originally, having only seen the short comics on the Starfighter site but I'm glad I can now put somewhat of a name to them! I love Mickey and Jessica as well so I'll be happy whichever way you go!

Specifically that one old comic where the Soldier just hopped into the bathtub fully clothed and Petrova was like what are you DOING. ๐ Iโm so happy whenever you do art of them, and Iโm happy to wait patiently for however long you need to feel good about telling their story!
