I will be adding the Walkman and a few other goodies in there, so keep this link handy. Luke took me a lot longer than I expected to cut up. I ended up making two versions, one of them has a smaller base, its in the HOTH LARGE PRINT folder.
I wanted to print mine very large, but the full diorama Hoth base was going to be some 1 metre long... and I didn't particularly want to print it that big, so what I did was make a super big version with a lot more cut parts, including a separate head and it has a much smaller round base that takes up as much as needed to cover the feet distance but thats it. This model pushed my PC bigtime... I mean it's lowered now for printing, but in its raw format, it is nearly 2gb of data, 20 million polygons ... its detailed!
Granted, a couple of pieces are not as flat as I would like them on the build plate, but that was just a downside of having non-planar cuts in the model (as in following shapes and hiding seams) rather than always cutting on a dead flat plane which can be great, but sometimes can also cut right through things you dont want to. You will see on the hips how I cut through the middle of each hip-pack in the middle seam and then through his belt, hopefully it shouldnt show too bad.
Printing the Pins:
I suggest always with any joining parts, print them slightly under scale to make sure you get a great fit. I print all my joiners and pins at 99.2%, so not even 1% smaller, but about 0.8% smaller.. just saves me sanding pins and allows for lower tolerances on my crappier machines.
*P.S I had to manually add a support under the zipper pull (up the top near his neck) it didnt auto generate, I will look at making it thicker too if anyone has any issues, i'm printing mine so big it shouldn't matter tho.
Please see the attached assembly images (they are also included in the link, just check the 2018 folder Issue 11.)
Enjoy! 3am here i'm going to hit the hay and let these uploads finish.
cheers
Geoff.
