The 'Green Hell' of the Pacific theater was brutal. It was a completely different kind of war from the European campaign. The jungle is unforgiving and hostile in itself - let alone with the addition of the vicious and very capable Japanese soldier. You have to respect their dedication as warriors. They just didn't figure into their equation that the Marines are also dedicated and vicious if not more-so. I love watching your reactions, Dasha.

You asked about animals, anything from the most venomous snakes in the world to the largest crocodiles to mosquitoes spreading malaria. But when it comes to war, it's the things people don't think about that must have been hell, like being eaten up by every bug and having severe muscle cramps because you are dehydrated and not eating right. You have diarrhea running down your backside and being shot at all at the same time.
