Hahahahaha you guys are co cute. I am not trying to traumatize my sister lol

Dasha

Hahahah ok thatโ€™s intriguing

Dasha

I think Dasha really is trying to traumatize her sister . But in a good way ๐Ÿ˜…

LOL! See! Even cultural jokes are sometimes lost on people from within the culture! It is unrealistic for viewers to expect someone from outside the culture to get all of our jokes when we don't even get them all!

Michael@GetFitwithDogs

Mr b, I absolutely agree about when Dasha explains cultural stuff to us. I have adapted some of that into my daily speech, like when she told us about the expression "you say you're a mushroom so get in the box." Michael, I assumed that a Bill Cosby was just a drink made with Jello pudding...๐Ÿ˜‰

To give credit, Dasha gets more jokes then she thinks she does. I also love when there is a joke related to dashas culture and she explains it to us. Either way, Dashas time on the north American continent reacting to a majority of american film, has exposed her to a lot cultural jokes she wouldn't get otherwise. Its really the older millennial gen x humor that her, even I don't get sometimes. I say that as a millennial myself lol.

I vote that Dasha and her sister watch "Gremlins" together for Christmas. If Dasha and her sisters personalities were represented by a movie, it would be "Gremlins"

Twice the fun when these ladies react. โค๏ธ

I have seen comments from people (not just on Dasha's reactions, but on other reaction channels as well) where the commenter said that they were disappointed by the non-reaction to some of the comedy's punchlines, calling the reaction "boring" or a "let down". That is an unfair complaint, IMO. That is why I shared my brother's experiences with his Colombian girl. It isn't fair to expect people who aren't from the culture to get all of the cultural jokes and react to them the same way you did. As you said, Troy, some jokes are cross-cultural. Everyone can laugh at slapstick, awkwardness, foolishness, etc. However, some things require that you understand the context that the joke came out of, or is referencing... such as the Bill Cosby example above. No one would understand why calling a drink you just gave to your girl the "Bill Cosby" is funny in that moment unless you understood that Bill Cosby was convicted of drugging women with their drinks. Some might not think the joke was funny even if they understood the reference, since the real situation was so wrong. Others might say that the wrongness of it is exactly WHY it was a funny joke. You all can decide on that individually, and I suspect that there would be a lot of different opinions about it.

I've been writing comedy my whole life, and nothing is more complicated. Some things are just universally funny, such as physical comedy, but when you get to idiomatic stuff, semantic stuff, it can be darned near impossible to entertain across the cultural spectrum. Dasha often says she may not get things because of the cultural differences, but she almost always does, which is a real credit to her.

Bless you two. I really needed you today and you delivered. But Dasha, showing all these uncomfortable movies to Natalia... Is this some sort of revenge? ๐Ÿ˜‰ When you were children, did she steal your candy bar or something? With the holidays coming up, how about giving her a break, and watching a nice Christmas movie with her? (And no, not Bad Santa!) Thank you guys for realizing that jokes are just jokes. We need a lot more folks like you in the world. Anyway, thank you for putting a smile on my face for 30 minutes. You ladies are the best medicine!

My brother is with a Colombian woman and she has been in the USA for 10 years. He still sometimes stops us in the middle of our conversations to explain the jokes we are making to her so that she is not left out. Humor can sometimes be the hardest thing to learn, as much of it is culturally based. Some humor is universal, such as vulgar jokes. If us brothers made fun of each other with a dick joke or something like that, she would totally get it and join in on cracking jokes too. If you said a cultural joke to her, she wouldn't understand it and would have to have the joke explained. When she is with us it is something we have to keep in mind when making jokes. For example, if my brother gave her a mixed drink and she asked what it was and he said it was called the "Bill Cosby", she would totally not get the joke. If you're from the US and you know the Bill Cosby story, you'd get the joke. NOT!

Great reaction from Dasha and Natalia.
