Agree. It seems that most people think modern dating is a hellscape, and they long for the days of romance and courtship that we used to have. I also agree with that, but what is crazy is that it's mostly not men who refuse to return to this. Our culture has been corrupted by an ideology that views masculinity as bad in men but good in women - which makes no logical sense unless it's truly just about hatred or revenge. Which I think it is. In reality, I do not think any time period was perfect, but I certainly believe we went way off track at some point. I won't go into another long speech on this, but I think the sexual revolution played a big role in this. There are so many reasons why promiscuity has been frowned upon throughout all of human history, most of which were good reasons to frown upon it. Unwanted pregnancy is a huge one. I don't think we should underestimate the negative side birth control has played in changing the dating world. I think most people deep down do look back fondly at purity. There is a reason why we are all drawn to stories of true love and sacrifice. Just one example is the courtship in the movie Hacksaw Ridge - which the love story was only a part of and not the only focus. I think most men and women look at that relationship and see something they would want for themselves. I don't think people look at relationships like the one in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and think, "Yeah, that's what I want."

2025-01-23 16:13:14 +0000 UTCThe expectations, the entitlement, the silly reasons why relationships end before they begin, the 'ick', hookup culture, how men get treated when rejected, social media and how much shaming, blaming, and dirty laundry gets shared, the levels of misogyny and misandry out there, everything is horrifying.

2025-01-21 15:08:28 +0000 UTCIt seems that modern movies are cutting back on the romance. I suppose it's because they're trying to push the idea that it's not needed, but many people still want it. Hollywood is so out of touch. I was very luck to have been pursued in my first two (and only) relationships, so I never had to wonder when to kiss. It was only after the divorce that the nightmare of dating hit me. This was before smart phones and singles apps, but I checked out and never tried again. Recently, I've been watching dating videos and I'm horrified. I don't know how anyone finds love these days.
