Dasha, there was an underlying message to the movie, but you may have missed it because you have good mental health. It was an allegory about grief & depression, which is what the Babadook was. You didn't pick up until much later that she was intensely missing her dead husband, even 7 years later. She couldn't get over her grief & feelings of loss. She couldn't rise above it & put it in its place, in order to move on with her life. Samuel was being affected by her negative energy & felt it as a real threat to his mother & him. She couldn't get a handle on it & it became a dangerous depression. The Babadook got into her when he showed up on her ceiling, he lept into her mouth, but you didn't realize until later that that had already happened. It started defining her as a person. Depression is an insidious illness, it can literally drag you down & kill you. Many people die from depression every year.
At Bingo, the clients were somewhat absent-minded, so she called out "5 billion"
as a joke number, but the other nurse didn't approve of the humor.
Cheers 🍻 💖
