A separate note I want to make is just to give my appreciation to great writing. I always liked reading, and a good portion of my childhood was spent reading Sword & Sorcery books. When I was little the earliest book I recall reading was "the Tale of Sir Gawain." The book that truly launched my interest into this genre was "Exile" by RA Salvatore, which wasn't even the first book in his series but was still the one I first got my hands on. While the Salvatore series was a lot of fun (I think it got tired long ago, though) the writing simply wasn't on the level of A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones.) In fact, I don't believe it was on the level of Harry Potter, either. Truly deep stories by talented writers are a gift. I'm always looking for a new great series to begin. It's unfortunate that George RR Martin is not going to finish his book series. The same with another great series, The Kingkiller Chronicle, by Patrick Rothfuss. I know they've played with the idea of making that series into a show or a set of movies, but who knows. It's hard to find a good team in Hollywood to adapt books. These days I am always afraid they'll fail to do a good story justice when they try to adapt it. Hollywood is starved for writing talent these days. The team that did Andor was pretty good, though.

The tragedy of Hodor is that he essentially died twice. Bran's exploration into the past connected the present to that past. When Bran warged into young Hodor, he experienced his future death and it broke his mind. That is why from that moment forward, he could only say, "Hodor." So you are right, it was his destiny. This was incredibly powerful watching it live when it came out. Social Media exploded with commentary around this scene and Hodor's fate. One of my favorite memes from this episode said, "Some heroes wear capes. Some just hold the door." During the height of GoT, I used to frequent websites where fan theories were discussed. I do not remember anyone guessing that this was the fate of Hodor. However, here is a crazy story that the author shared: In 2013, writer Michael Ventrella shared an elevator with George RR Martin. He said to George, "I finally figured out why you have a character named 'Hodor.' It's clear to me now that 'Hodor' is short for 'Hold the door.'" George RR Martin laughed and said, "You don't know how close to the truth you are!"
