that was a standing double bass, not a cello.....cellos are like lower tuned violins by a fifth so the interval between each string is a 5th (C-G-D-A). The double bass (while it looks like a gigantic cello) is actually more like a guitar and the interval between each string is a 4th (like the bottom strings of a guitar E-A-D-G) and is an octave lower than the cello. It's a subtle difference but the cello is still a performative instrument (listen to the Dvorak Cello concerto for a reference) whereas a double bass is just there to provide the foundation notes of a song (like magenta's electric bass....they're basically the same instrument, one is just strung on the shoulder horizontally while the other is vertical standing on the floor)
